Drumstick Sambhar

Yield: 4 Persons

Ingredients :

Onion – 1 large , finely Chopped

Tomato – 1 large , chopped

Toor dal – ½  cup

Water – 1 cup for Toor dal and 3 cups for the gravy

Drumstick – 1 , cut into 2 1/2 inches length

Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp

Fenugreek Seeds – ¼ tsp

Asafoetida – ½ tsp

Curry leaves – 6-7

Sambhar Masala – 2 tsp

Green Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp ( finely chopped)

Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp

Dry Red Chillies – 2

Tamarind Paste – 1 tsp

Salt – to taste

How I do it :

Soak the toor dal in 1 cup water with tomato and  turmeric. Pressure cook until 3 whistles in high heat and then in low heat for 10 min

Remove from cooker,allow it to cool and grind it in mixer.

In a Wok, heat 2 tsp oil/ghee.

Add Asafoetida, Mustard and Fenugreek Seeds along with curry leaves.

When the mustard seeds splutter add the chopped Onion.

Saute for a minute in low heat.

Add 3 cups of water and tamarind paste with salt. Add the Drumsticks and Sambhar Masala.

Cover and cook for 5 min in low heat.

Now add the dal , cover and cook again in low heat for 5 min.

Remove from heat, garnish with green coriander and serve hot with Steamed Rice / Dosa/Idli
